Having and plan and being prepared for the ebbs and flows of a physical education class is a staple of a high-quality PE teacher. However, designing dynamic lesson plans that provide opportunities for meaningful learning can is a skill that needs intentional practice.
The benefits of effective lesson planning are not confined just to learning outcomes. According to the team at Teachable Math, “an additional benefit of good lesson planning is that it inspires teachers to do what they do best. In turn, students tend to respond to a well-prepared teacher by wanting to learn and remain focused.”
In this course, teachers will gain an in-depth understanding for developing effective lesson plans for physical education. Teachers work through all of the necessary components of a quality PE class period and how to effectively plan for and operationalize those components in a manner that is efficient and effective. Such components include learning targets, transitions, differentiation, groups/teams, and more.
In this course learners will:
- Identify and understand the foundational components of a high-quality physical education lesson.
- Understand the importance of learning targets and how to create them.
- Identify differentiation strategies and ways to support all athletes.
- Develop strategies for lesson planning and recognition of SEL.
