What we say and do matters. We can have the best planned out lesson with the perfect learning targets and immaculately set up equipment, but if we are not aware of the things we say and do in that timeframe it’s all for not. Our ability to communicate with the athletes we serve is paramount to their success.
Renowned athletic performance coach and keynote speaker, Nick Winkelman has stated, “There are two parts of great coaching. The first is possessing the right knowledge-what techniques to use, what exercises to use, what drill to uses and what methods to use. The other part, which is often overlooked, is the ability to communicate and help people apply the information to real situations.”
In this course we will dive into the various ways we communicate with athletes in our classes. We will cover how to communicate with athletes effectively and intentionally. We will also learn about often misunderstood and overlooked areas of instruction that can maximize the effectiveness of our daily lessons. Teachers will gain an understanding and practical application strategies for cueing, feedback, modeling, motivation, and giving instructions.
In this course learners will:
- Enrich their understanding of the importance of clear and concise instructions.
- Develop strategies to effectively manipulate attentional focus to help athletes succeed.
- Discover the various types and strategies for effective cuing.
- Discover how to best use feedback to refine the learning process.
